Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former coach Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
It is his first trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
The win also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a decider.
The opponent defended 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
